Statement by Ned Thomas, Chair, Dyddiol Cyf.
“Preparations to set up the first ever daily newspaper, Y Byd, are approaching an important phase.”
“I welcome the commitment by the Welsh Assembly Government to support the Welsh language press, including a Welsh language daily newspaper. I also welcome the review being conducted by the Heritage Minister and the Welsh Language Board into the Welsh language press, which is due to be concluded by the end of 2007. As the process of reviewing the Welsh language press continues, Dyddiol Cyf. is waiting eagerly to hear what kind of support will be available to help fund a daily newspaper.”
“The timetable given for this process means that the launch date for Y Byd is under review. Our original plan was to launch on March 3, 2008. In the meantime, the work to prepare for Y Byd continues.”
